News of the sunsetting was announced overnight with word that servers will go dark on April 28. Released on August 11, 2020, a reason for shutting the game down was not provided. Ubisoft only stated that it was a “difficult decision to end development,” and that it will be “taking key learnings from this game into future products.” Set in the distant future of 2054, the urban futuristic game pits 100 Contenders against each other in FPS close-quarters and fast-paced matches....

Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind the often delayed Skull & Bones, is under investigation from the country’s watchdog for fair employment practices over discrimination and sexual harassment claims. The Straits Times is reporting that The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (Tafep) has received anonymous complaints from staff about sexual harassment and workplace misconduct, referencing recent media reports on the subject. In investigating the development of Skull & Bones, a Kotaku report from a month ago painted a grim picture of the studio, with reports of incompetent leadership, and worker abuse....

Valorant, which is currently in closed beta, will release on June 2, Riot announced today. The closed beta will come to an end on May 28, and at that time, all player accounts will be reset and new content will be patched in. Players can expect new game content, a new game mode, a new agent, and a new map at launch. To meet demand, additional new game servers will be added as part of the team’s short-term roadmap in order to lower latency....

In Valve’s regular Steam Year in Review blog post, the company talked a great deal about some of the highlights of 2019, and what it’s working on for 2020. Valve said that third-parties often use publicly available Steam data to track performance for individual games and gauge the health of Steam as a whole. This data, however, is limited, and since Valve has access to much more of it, it’s going to be sharing some of it with the rest of us....

The Pokemon Company ended last week’s news-filled Pokemon Presents livestream by announcing that this week, a big new Pokemon project is being revealed. The developer didn’t give any hints as to what that could be, but seeing as it’s getting its own show, we’re inclined to believe it’s going to be worth the wait. Nintendo’s first Direct in the new year is one dedicated entirely to Pokemon. The show is 20-minutes long, and will air today at 6:30am PT, 9:30am ET, 2:30pm UK. The timing of this particular Direct is interesting. We just came off a big release in Pokemon: Sword and Shield, so we’re not really anticipating any big game announcements. Despite selling very well, Sword and Shield was not especially well received by longtime fans due to the developer’s decision to limit the Pokemon player can transfer to it....

The company definitely teased an ambiguous new game announcement. Although it’s not necessarily clear what it’s going to be, it’s not unreasonable to assume it could be the long-rumored, known-but-never-announced Batman game the studio has purportedly been working on - which is apparently a soft reboot. For now, though, all we know for sure is that it’s centered on the word, “Redacted,” or, as it’s so stylishly spelled in the teaser, “r3dakt3d....

The trailer, which features voice over commentary by creative director, Raphael Colantonio, provides a quick peek at the start of Bounty Hunter Jane Bell’s story. Jane is one of five protagonists playable in Weird West, and it’s your job as the player to find out who kidnapped your husband and murdered your son. In the trailer, Ralphael explains that one of the major goals with Weird West is “for everything that seems interactive to actually be interactive....

Blizzard has revealed that World of Warcraft’s Appearance Change, which is currently a store item that costs $15, won’t exist after the launch of Shadowlands. Appearance Change is currently the only way to change your character’s gender. Unlike other features like hair and face, it’s the only one that costs money. With the arrival of Shadowlands, Blizzard is adding gender change to the list of things you can tweak at a barber shop....

The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, perhaps the biggest event of E3 2021, has been and gone. At a tight 90 minutes, packed end to end with game trailers and announcements, it was a big win for Xbox. Without Sony to battle head to head with, Xbox had the limelight to itself and didn’t squander the opportunity. That brings the cost of the Robot White or Carbon Black Xbox controller down to $49.99, compared to its usual price of $59.99. Meanwhile, the slightly more adventurous Shock Blue version is reduced to $54.99 with the price cut. Unfortunately, this discount doesn’t apply to the newly-announced Pulse Red controller. That’s fair, though, considering it hasn’t even been released yet. Even if you don’t want an extra pad for your console, many would consider the Xbox controller to be one of the best you can buy for use on other devices too....
